Cindy G.
I remember a nightmare of a day in July 2010. It didn’t start out that way. My daughter and I had been gardening for a while, and we decided to take a break and sit down by the pool. When I went to stand up, I couldn’t move my left leg. It felt like it was made out of lead! I sat back down again thinking that maybe it just “fell asleep”. I tried to stand up again and the same thing happened, and this tmie my daughter noticed that something was wrong. I stood again and was able to take busy steps, but my leg still felt extremely heavy. I thought that whatever it was would pass and that by tomorrow I would feel better. Well the following day my leg would “kick out” with every step I took. I became quite concerned (of course thinking the worse…maybe I had had a stroke), and went to see my GP. He did a routine physical check- blood pressure, temperature, reflexes, etc. and was quite puzzled by my symptoms, and he put a call into a neurologist to schedule an appointment. As fate may have it, the neurologist was in surgery and my GP advised that it might be a while before he could call and suggested going home in the meantime.
My husband had a “first time” appointment to see Dr. Jenkins later that day, and asked me if I wanted to go with him on the chance that he could shed some light on what was happening to me. I was really scared at this time, so I agreed. I saw Dr. J that day (Friday), and we scheduled a consultation the following morning. I was amazed that he would take time on his Saturday morning to see me and was most impressed with the thoroughness of my consultation. With the x-rays I had taken and the information obtained in our consultation, Dr. J determined that there was no ONE major reason for the numbness in my leg and the general weakness in the left side of my body…I wasn’t in a car accident, didn’t fall down a flight of stairs. There were, however, many seemingly little things that just kept building upon each other and compounding the fact that I had sublaxations ( a new word for me!) that were pressing on my spinal column and brain stem and not allowing the messages from the brain to get through to the various organs in my body. I have always had problems with my back and had seen many chiropractors in my past, but NO ONE ever explained “why” my back hurt. They would “fix” me for the day and send me on my way. What Dr. J said just made all the sense in the world to me. Finally an explanation! Likewise it would take a long time to get me back to where I needed to be. It was a commitment I was more than willing to make because I believe in Dr. J.
It has been almost a year since that first visit, and I have gone though days of struggle, frustration and depression because I was not able to do the simplest of daily tasks like putting on a pair of pants or just walking downstairs from my bedroom without being exhausted by the effort. But I CANNOT tell you how different my life is today. I am so NOT the person that walked (and I use that word loosely) into Dr. J’s office last July. I now have the dignity to walk with my spine straight and head held high. I am no longer hunched over like an eighty year old woman who has no energy or endurance. I am stronger, happier, healthier, and free from taking sleeping aids. This is a testimonial to Dr. J and his knowledge and commitment to better health through chiropractic care!
